Claude Hall is buried with his daughter Barbara who was killed in the same air raid as him and also his other daughter aged 2 who died in November 1940

Cargo ship Woodtown, 794grt. (Comben, Longstaff & Co. Ltd.) had loaded a cargo of granite at Newlyn for London. On the 15th November 1939 off Margate two and half miles from the Tongue Light Vessel the ship detonated a mine, which tore the bottom out of the ship and sank thirty seconds killing eight of the thirteen crew. The survivors were picked up by local lifeboat crew. The mine barrage had been laid by German destroyers between the 12th & 13th November 1939.

Dennis Hicks was killed whilst serving on the SS Defoe. The ship had been sailing in Convoy OS-41 on voyage from the UK to the Middle East, when she caught fire South-West of Rockall. An explosion blew the ships bow off killing several men and the ship was abandoned to her fate.

"He was killed by a German sniper as he sat down for a smoke and removed his helmet, he was shot in the head and died instantly. When his mother read the telegram informing her of his death she passed out, her mother picked up the telegram, she read it and she also passed out. His mothers sister was in the room and she had to bring the two around and comfort them both. He had just turned 19 yrs."
