Originally born in Scotland he is recorded as living in Newport at the time of his death. On the 5th June 1943 he accidentally drowned at Philadelphia, serving as a ships Greaser on the SS British Statesman. Age 20.

(a cousin of mine named Frank Abraham was also a crew member on this ship when it was torpedoed. Frank was picked by the Walmer Castle which in turn was sunk by a German aircraft and he was eventually rescued by HMS Deptford - Shaun)

NIGHT OPS, January 28/29th, Monday night and early Tuesday.1) STUTTGART AREA:-602 aircraft - 316 Halifaxes, 258 Lancasters and 28 Mosquitoes from 1, 4, 6 & 8 Groups in an attack spilt into 2 parts three hours apart. The 1st force (226 aircraft) was directed at the railway yards at Kornwestheim just to the north of Stuttgart while the 2nd (376 aircraft) was sent to the Hirth aero-engine factory in the north-western suburb of Stuttgart, Zuffenhausen. The targets were mostly cloud covered and the bombing (on skymarkers) was scattered, although the Bosch works in Feuerbach was hit. Fires burned for up to 12 hours, with 123 people killed in Stuttgart and 41 killed in Kornwestheim. This was the last large RAF attack on Stuttgart and 11 aircraft were missing (6 Lancasters, 4 Halifaxes and 1 Mosquito) and another Halifax crashed on takeoff.56 of our airmen died, 16 were taken PoW and 2 were injured. The only unit to lose more than one aircraft was 408 Sqdn,
who lost 2.
