The photographs below were in the posession of Kenneth Troake, Sergeant (Air Gnr.), RAF, killed 16th June 1943.

Ken troake

Ken Troake

Kenneth's family believe that these are his friends that also attended Newport High School and I would welcome any help in identifying these persons.

John James                                                            Bill Glover

      John James                                  ?????                                 Bill Glover

Following publication of a letter of mine to the South Wales Argus asking for help in identifying the airmen in these photographs, I received a letter from John James (above) identifying himself and also another airman, Bill Glover. John also stated that he is still "very much alive" (August 2008) and a search of the CWGC web site finds no record of Bill Glover being killed in WWII and is assumed to have survived.

The photo below is taken from a 1935 photograph of all the boy pupils of Newport High school  The boy on the far left is Ken Troake and are the other three the airmen above?

This photo below is of John Stanley Powell on the right killed on active service, 22nd July 1943 and his friend "Nick" from Chepstow Road, Newport.

Can anyone identify "Nick"?
