Born in South Wales to Tom and Sarah Nekrewes (Sarah Maria SERVICE) Ronald had a brother Kenneth and sister Muriel. Ron Nekrewes was a school teacher living at home at 46 St Julien Street, Newport.
After capture in Singapore he was taken to Saigon and put to work in the docks for about a year and then moved to work on the Burma railway.
Ronald died on Sunday 26th July 1943 at Kinsayok Jungle camp (not far from the notorious Hellfire Pass) and after the war his remains were recovered and placed with thousands of his comrades in the Commonwealth Cemetery at Kanchanaburi, Thailand.
